FAQs

GAMSAT questions, answered

The questions students ask me most often about the GAMSAT, the courses, tutoring and applying to medicine. If yours isn’t here, email me at hello@gamsattutorials.org.

How much do your students improve by?

On average, my Section 1 students (course and individually tutored) improve by 8 marks, and my Section 2 students improve by 10 marks.

Can you guarantee I will improve my score?

No, and you should be very wary of any tutor or company that guarantees success. Success in the GAMSAT relies on many things, one of which is preparation. It is hard and there is no magic formula. If you want to do well you need to work hard. I can give you the tools and strategies to succeed, but at the end of the day you need to put in the work.

How long do I have access to the course?

You have lifetime access. Once you enrol, the course is yours — come back to it for as many GAMSAT cycles as you need.

Do you tutor English-second-language or international students?

Yes. Most of my Section 1 students are international or ESL students and some have done exceptionally well, outscoring native English speakers. Having worked with a lot of ESL students I have identified the unique challenges of Section 1 for ESL and international students. All tutoring is over Zoom, so location is not an issue.

I have dyslexia or ADHD, can you help me?

Absolutely. I have tutored many students with dyslexia or ADHD who initially really struggled with Section 1 comprehension. It took a lot of work, but these students successfully got into medicine at their top university and are thriving. I do not think having a learning difficulty should be a barrier to medicine. ACER does have special consideration for those with a learning difficulty, so make sure you contact them well before the exam.

What makes you different from other prep companies?

A few things. First, it is just me. I mark all essays, I reply to all emails, and I have created everything based on feedback from a lot of students. Second, I truly believe everyone should have an equal footing regardless of income, which is why I have developed so many free resources. Finally, I keep my prices as low as possible, because I too was once a student trying to find high quality resources within my budget.

Do you have any Section 3 resources?

No. Whilst I scored well in Section 3, I am not comfortable tutoring it as I do not understand the material well enough. I only tutor what I know, and what I know has been successful, which is Section 1 and Section 2.

Is the free Section 2 marking actually free?

Yes. It is 100% free, no strings attached, no expectations, and no pesky emails asking you to sign up to other products. However, there are very limited slots, so make sure you sign up to the email list to know when the marking is open.

Is my GAMSAT, GPA or portfolio competitive enough? I am lost or frustrated about medicine.

Okay, take a big breath. I have been there, the application process is not fun. Send me an email with your thoughts and frustrations and we can work through them together. I am always happy to give my opinion on your application and recommend a path forward.

Why do the question bank and courses contain so many short answer questions if the exam is multiple choice?

Because writing short answers is the fastest way to expose and fix reasoning gaps. Multiple choice can trick you into thinking you understand something, especially when you guess correctly or lean into elimination strategies. Short answers force you to articulate your thinking. No hiding. No flukes. Just clarity or confusion revealed. That is why short answers are woven throughout the courses and make up the final practice bank.

Where did you go in 2025?

In 2025 I made the difficult decision to pause GAMSAT Tutorials for a year. Not for lack of demand, but because several major responsibilities converged at once. I had consistent feedback that parts of the YouTube explanations needed rerecording for clarity, and the courses needed updating to stay aligned with ACER’s evolving exam style. At the same time I was completing my medical training, relocating, travelling, and training for an Ironman. Running GAMSAT Tutorials properly is not a passive task, and I could not maintain the standard I expect of myself while managing all of it. Rather than deliver rushed updates or reduced support, I chose to pause completely. I am now back, with updated material, clearer explanations, and the capacity to be consistently present. This time it is a long-term commitment. I am here, and I am not going away again.
